Kathleen Hall

In reading this article I have been learning to combine close reading and inference skills to analyse text to learn more about the qualities of people known as heroes or leaders.

Kathleen Hall was a New Zealand missionary-nurse. At first, she left her home in New Zealand in 1923 and arrived in China, she was known as a “Barefoot Doctor” for walking for the neighbours to help and care for the sick and she was a Christian Missionary-Nurse, she was helped by the local people to build a small clinic in Song Family Village for the sick. There’s a China invasion, Doctor Bethune told her to buy medical supplies from Beijing to Hebei Mountains for the Chinese army, she stole many medical supplies and gave most of it for the Chinese army, when they discovered her secret, they arrived at the Song Family Village, burned down the clinic, placed down under house arrest and put her on a ship to be returned to New Zealand but she jumped on the ship and joined the Chinese red cross and continue to work for the people she cared about. She is memorized with a tall, white marble statue of a nurse, her medical bag under her arm and her faithful dog on her side and she was unveiled in 1996. She is helpful and caring, you can see these in her actions, she built a small clinic at the Song Family Village with the local people and helped the people who are sick. She is not well known in New Zealand but she is a hero and the one whom the Chinese have not forgotten.

A torrential rain fell from the sky and had caused flood and traffic, the wind was strong and the rain which made the road a canal. The old woman was standing in the middle of the traffic, scared and confused then Amit was behind her then he dashed to the old woman and saved her.

Amit was a brave, caring, courageous and supportive boy. he helped the old woman to cross the road caused by the traffic in a dangerous situation. He is caring and supportive to the people who needed help. He is courageous enough to help the old woman without thinking about himself.

This event took place from New Zealand and this place is an island country in the southwestern Pacific ocean. The country geographically comprises two main landmasses – that of the North island, or Te Ika-a-Māui, and the South Island, or Te Waipounamu.

This event will happen on 3 March and when the flag is changed, our country will be a symbol of who we are as kiwis.


5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.
This event took place in New Zealand because if our flag changes, it will be better for us because when our flag is the new one, it will represents us as kiwis.

Sir Edmund Hillary is a New Zealanders and lived in Nepal, you could find him on a five dollar note and the first person to reach Mt Everest with his climbing companion, Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay at the time of 11:30 a.m. He is a mountaineer, a beekeeper and he was knighted by the Queen, He devoted most of his life to helping the Sherpa people of Nepal through the Himalayan Trust which he founded and he helped the children by building schools, hospitals, bridges, airfield and clinics with the Sherpas. He is a high achiever, hard working, organised and a humble man. He has a wife named Lady Louise Hillary and they have three children, Peter, Sarah and Belinda, but his wife and his youngest daughter, Belinda died during the construction of Phaplu hospital in a plane crash on 1975.

Zika Virus

Zika Virus

WHO (World Health Organization) says ‘There is no vaccine or treatment for zika, which is like dengue and causes mild fever, rash and red eyes. An estimated 80 percent of people infected have no symptoms.
Zika is ‘strongly suspected’ to cause babies to be born with abnormally small heads and brains. So it is very serious for pregnant women if they are infected with the Zika virus.

The Zika Virus has infected thousands of babies over Brazil. WHO (World Health Organization) states that there is no known treatment or cure for the virus. There is an estimate that 80% of people infected have no symptoms.


3. Find out where this event took place and include some information about this place.


This event took place in Brazil in South America and that place has a hot temperature.


4. Tell us when this event happened and explain what might happen in the future.


The Zika Virus happened on 2014 on Brazil and if the WHO have no treatment or vaccine, many babies will die if the virus spreads more.


5. Explain in your own words why this event took place.


This event took place in Brazil because Zika Virus spreads through mosquito bites that cause mild fever, rash and red eyes.
